U.S. retail sales increased more than expected in June, but the budding economic recovery is being threatened by a resurgence in new Covid-19 infections and high unemployment.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 123.53 points, or 0.46 percent, at the open to 26,746.57.
Record retail sales rise helps recovery from pandemic but smaller rebound for industry
